As a part of my final major project I have decided to look at british minorities such as the Black and Asian communities, how they have struggled to survive and prosper in a Keep Britain White Society and where we are at now. I thought it would be interesting to see how it was when these races first started to enter britain on a large scale and the problems they explored, but overall I think that the imagery will help to show a sense of style, fashion, culture and give an insight to the unknown about what these people were really like and not their stereotype.
As i am going to be paying particular attention to the younger generations of these classes in britain today I thought it would also be good to have a insight about their older generations who were most likely born in the the caribbean, Africa, or Asia. The yonger Generations are more likely to be born in Britain and so therefore by comparing different eras and environments i wanted to see what the fashion of these young black and asian youths are inspired by or do they stilll hold onto their mother roots or culture , values and morals to influence the way they dress.
This is Britain now. Before Asian and Black used to walk shoulder to shoulder as they were going through the same circumstances. Now that these races are established within britain they now need to establish there identity in Britain.
A video insight to a photographer take on the Handsworth Riots.
A place where West Indians settled in the 50's and later in the 70's people from the India Sub-continent. A place described as being "vibrant and a colourful mix of cultures", a "warm and thriving community", which these immigrants found a nice place to be until the National Front more popularly known as the NF had a problem.
